Sally Stillingfleet takes a look at the latest trends in swimwear

The beginning of the summer season can be truly daunting, when body imperfections are in sharp focus for us all. Women who have ‘body issues’ can address their areas of concern by choosing swimwear intelligently to flatter and provide support, skimming over those troublesome areas! When it comes to swimwear options and with holidays fast approaching, Giselle, owner of Chameleon, has passed on her superior knowledge and provided the fool proof guide to summer bathing.
What are the hot swimwear looks for 2010? Swimsuits get a bit more funky with better bust support both at Charmline and Moontide. And good accessories always help!
What are the colours for this year? Anything goes this season I think - although prints do seem to be stronger than plains. Moontide have some great prints cleverly named Medallion, Tattoo and Florence. Colours are navy/turquoise (suits everyone), black and chocolate highlighted with scarlet, carbon and blush pink.
Can I still wear a bikini over the age of 40 or is a one piece more flattering? I think you can wear a bikini at any age as long as you are confident wearing it, it fits properly and the colours and prints suit you. A ‘jelly belly’ can be hidden by fold down pant styles (Moontide) which mean you can have them up to walk around in and down to sunbathe! Good bust support is important and Fantasie/Freya do this well with bra shaped tops. Halter necks are great but not if you have a heavy bust because it puts too much strain on the neck.
Are there any new gizmos / inventions designed to flatter incorporated in any of the ranges? Charmline by Maryan Melhorn are a top of the range brand with high Lycra content which means great control but they are not a heavy weight of fabric and are definitely not boring. Every print is placed and original canvas designs are the basis of the print. There are numerous different strength meshes and support materials used in each pattern for differing sized costumes! All the suits are designed to draw the eye away from big busts or tummies they are flattering by design.
I am a pear shape what do you suggest? Steer clear of short style bottoms! They only enhance the bottom area, tie or narrow sides are more flattering and higher legs too can elongate the leg length. Although there are not many high legs around there are plenty of tie or string sides. Try also to balance up with a slightly fuller rather than skimpy top, bandeau can work well here. Wear wedged rather than flat flip flop styles too!
I have a large bust, any suggestions? Make sure the top is properly supportive and cup sized. We stock Fantasie/Freya Watercult and Charmline, all of which have cup sizing. You may be better with a normal bra shape rather than a halter neck (unless bust is enhanced and firm!!)
I have a small bust, what would suit me? Wear a lightly boosted top with a pre formed cup - some of which you can add an extra fillet in if you wish (girls know what I mean!) Smaller cups can wear bandeau tops and be strap mark free around the neck (always a bonus!)
Your favourite pieces and why? My Charmline swimsuit and my Moontide shorts. I can snorkel/dive in the costume (perfect for any water activities) as it won’t bag or cause any embarrassing incidents but supports my bust! The shorts are in three flattering lengths and you can get them wet as they are made of swimwear material! They also look cool in black and white.
